Natural Refrigerants

5 refrigerants in this category. Natural refrigerants (CO₂, ammonia and the hydrocarbons propane, isobutane and ethane) have negligible GWP and are exempt from HFC phase-downs. Each has a trade-off: R-744 runs at very high pressure and goes transcritical above 87.8°F, R-717 is toxic, and the hydrocarbons are highly flammable (A3), with strict charge limits.
